What Massachusetts Requires
State law (Chapter 85 of the Acts of 2000) requires schools and licensed daycares to:
- Have a written IPM plan that outlines your pest control approach
- Work with a licensed pest control company (not just DIY)
- Keep monitoring logs showing regular inspections
- Notify parents before pesticide applications (48 hours advance notice)
- Maintain records for 3 years
It’s administrative. We handle it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you use natural or chemical-free products?
We use the lowest-impact option that works. That usually means exclusion (no products), plant-based formulations exempt from EPA registration under FIFRA 25(b), or EPA reduced-risk products applied in contained stations. Calling any of this “chemical-free” wouldn’t be accurate – plant oils are still chemicals โ but our approach uses far less product than traditional spray programs, and never in occupied classrooms.
What does Massachusetts law require?
Chapter 85 of the Acts of 2000 requires schools and licensed daycares to have a written IPM plan, work with licensed pest control providers, keep monitoring logs, notify parents 48 hours before pesticide use, and maintain records for 3 years.
How long does setup take?
2-3 weeks. We write your plan in 1-2 weeks, train staff, and set up monitoring. You’ll have complete documentation within 30 days.
What if we already have a pest control contract?
We can work with them or replace them. Many companies still do monthly spray programs which don’t meet school requirements. We can review your contract and tell you if it’s compliant.
Do you handle the actual pest control or just paperwork?
Both. We do the monitoring, documentation, and pest treatment when needed. You don’t need two vendors.
Who keeps the records?
Your school does, usually the facilities manager or principal. We provide updated logs after each visit, but you maintain them for the required 3 years.
What pests do you handle?
Mice, rats, ants, cockroaches, wasps, hornets, and occasional invaders like spiders. Standard school pests.
Can you train new staff if our custodian leaves?
Yes. We provide refresher training for new facilities or custodial staff at no extra charge if you’re on quarterly service.
What happens during summer when school is closed?
Quarterly service continues year-round. Summer inspections catch problems before school reopens in September.
