Empty Homes Are Mouse Magnets
Vacant homes in Worcester County get mice within 2-3 weeks. No people, no noise, no heat. Mice move right in. PESTalytix uses sensors that work 24/7 and send alerts to your phone when mice show up. We catch them within 48 hours. No WiFi needed. Works even if your heat is off.
Worcester winters are brutal. When it’s 15ยฐF outside, mice want in. Your vacant home is exactly what they’re looking for:
- Perfect hiding spots. Walls, attic insulation, stored boxes.
- Nobody home. No footsteps. No voices. Nothing to scare them away.
- Entry points you don’t know about. That quarter-inch gap is all they need? You’ve never seen it.
- Nobody notices the signs. Droppings, scratching, chewed wires. Nobody’s there to see it.
Quick request. Weโll confirm whatโs going on and give you clear options.
if your family or neighbor is checking during the day they may never see any activity.
One pregnant mouse in October becomes 60 mice by March.
Week 1 – 4
Mice find your house and begin nesting
Week 5 – 8
Mice are having babies (6-10 pups every 3 weeks)
Month 2 – 3
One mouse is now 20-30 mice or more as time goes on
Who Needs This
Snowbirds and multi-home owners
You’re away for 5-6 months. Your Sterling or Worcester home sits empty. That’s exactly when mice move in
What you’re worried about:
Coming home in April to mice living in your walls
Chewed electrical wires (fire risk)
Pee-soaked insulation that smells horrible
Burst pipes that leaked and made things worse
What we do: Our sensors work while you’re gone. If mice show up in November, you know within 24 hours. We come out and fix it. You don’t find out in April when the damage is done.
Vacation Homes (Cabins, Lake Houses)
Your place on the lake sits empty 9-10 months a year.
What you’re worried about:
Showing up Memorial Day weekend to find mouse droppings everywhere
Mice nesting in your boat, kayak, or camping gear
Filing an insurance claim for damage you didn’t know about for months
What we do: Sensors watch all year. You show up in summer to a clean house. Any mouse problems got handled in the off-season when nobody was there.
Why Sensors Beat someone checking weekly
Most people ask a neighbor to check the house once a week. Nice gesture. Doesn’t work.
Neighbor Checking Weekly | Our Sensors (24/7) |
|---|---|
Looks for droppings and damage | Catches mice the day they get in |
Comes by once per week | Works every single day |
Misses 6 days of mouse activity | Catches it within 48 hours |
Finds problems when they’re obvious | Tells you before damage happens |
Has their own life (might miss a week) | Never takes a week off |
Needs your WiFi | Uses cell network like a phone |
Pick the approach that fits your home and budget.
Most homeowners choose Total Protection because it stops the repeat problem.

FAQ
Quick answers to the most popular questions.Replace with your real policies, timelines, and warranty terms.
Q: Can’t my neighbor just look after the place?
Your neighbor walking through once a week is kind. But they’re looking for obvious stuff. Droppings. Damage. Chewed things.
By the time that’s obvious, mice have been there 2-3 weeks.
Our sensors catch the first mouse within 48 hours. That’s 10-14 days earlier than your neighbor would notice.
Also, your neighbor has their own life. They might skip a week if they’re sick or on vacation. Sensors never skip a week.
Q: What if my WiFi is off? I shut everything off to save money.
Perfect. That’s why we use cell network instead of WiFi.
Sensors connect like a phone does. Even if internet, electric, and heat are off, sensors keep working. They have batteries and cell connection.
You get alerts no matter what’s turned off at your house.
Q: Do I have to leave the heat on?
Nope. Lots of snowbirds set the heat to 50-55ยฐF to stop pipes from freezing but save money.
That won’t stop mice. They’re fine in the cold. They just want to get out of the wind and snow. A 50ยฐF basement is warm compared to 15ยฐF outside.
Sensors work in any temperature. Even if you set heat to 40ยฐF.
Q: What if I get an alert while I’m in Florida?
That’s the whole point.
Alert hits your phone: “Basement sensor caught something.”
We call you within 4 hours: “Want us to go check it out?”
You say yes.
We go out within 48 hours. Find where they got in. Seal it. Trap them. Verify they’re gone.
All while you’re still in Florida. You come home in April to a clean house instead of finding mouse damage and paying $1,500 to fix it.
Q: Is this just for winter?
No. Works year-round for any time a house is empty.
We called it “Winter Guard” originally because most snowbirds leave November through April. But the sensors work in summer too.
Estate houses empty 12-18 months get watched the whole time. Vacation homes only used in summer get watched September through May. Construction projects get watched for the whole 3-6 months.
Anytime a Worcester County house sits empty more than 3 weeks, it needs watching.
Q: How is this different from regular pest control?
Regular pest control assumes somebody lives there to notice problems. You see droppings, you call us.
Vacant monitoring assumes nobody’s there, so sensors do the noticing for you. It’s constant watching instead of waiting for something obvious.
Also, regular service is 4 times a year. Vacant monitoring is 24/7 with someone walking through every week or two.
Q: Do you take out the sensors when I come back?
Two choices:
Choice 1: We take them out when you get home. No ongoing commitment.
Choice 2: Keep them and switch to regular pest control if you want year-round protection now that you’re living there again.
Up to you. We won’t pressure you either way.
Q: What if I’m only gone 6-8 weeks?
You can do short-term. Minimum is one month.
Example: You go to Florida December 15 through February 15. That’s 8 weeks. We install sensors mid-December, watch through mid-February, take them out when you get back.
Cost for 8 weeks: $150 (two months at $75 each)
Still cheaper than one insurance deductible if mice nest while you’re gone.
Q: What parts of the house do you watch?
Typical setup with 4 sensors:
- Basement (where they get in)
- Garage (common entry through door gaps)
- Attic (where they make nests)
- Kitchen (old food crumbs attract them)
Bigger houses or houses with known problems get 6 sensors. We might add mudrooms, crawlspaces, or sheds.
We figure out the right spots when we first check your house.
Q: Can I see the data myself?
Yes. You log in on your phone or computer and see:
- Status of each sensor right now
- History of what’s been detected
- Exact times anything happened
- Photos from when we walked through
- Records of any treatment we did
Some people check every day just for peace of mind. Others only look when they get an alert.
Your call.
Q: What happens if sensors die or stop working while I’m away?
We monitor sensor health 24/7. If a sensor goes offline or battery drops below 20%, we get an alert and contact you immediately.
We’ll come out and replace the sensor at no charge. This almost never happens, but if it does, we handle it fast.
Q: Do the sensors record video or audio?
No. Zero cameras. Zero microphones.
They only detect motion. That’s it. They can’t see you, hear you, or record anything. Just motion detection.
Your privacy stays private.
Q: What if mice get in through multiple entry points?
That happens sometimes. Older houses have lots of ways in.
When sensors catch activity, we do a full inspection with thermal imaging. We find every entry point, not just the one they used. We seal all of them at once.
If mice find a different way in later (rarely happens), sensors catch that too. We come back and seal it. No extra charge.
Q: Can I pause the service if I come back early?
Yes. If you come home earlier than planned, just let us know. We’ll pause monitoring, take out sensors, and you only pay for the months you actually used.
Example: You planned 6 months (November-April) but came home in February. You pay for 4 months ($600), not 6 months ($900).
Q: Does this work for commercial properties too?
Yes. Vacant restaurants, seasonal businesses, properties between tenants.
Same system. Same 24/7 watching. Same instant alerts.
